Rain

All I asked is for your love
But I am cruelly denied
I am left broken and alone
Sitting in the shattered pieces
Of my fragile heart
I sit alone in the darkness
Wondering what went wrong
I hear the rain tapping on the window
I pull on my coat and join my friend
He washes away the tears on my face
And the sorrow in my heart
I should have known this was coming
I wasn’t the one you loved
And now I am left with a gaping hole
In the place of my heart
I feel the rain caress my face
In sweet beckoning
I walk along the rain soaked path
To the old log bridge
I sit and contemplate my life’s existence
I find myself alone more than not
I am cold where once I was warm
I can’t feel my aching heart
I pull farther into my mind
Away from my pain and sorrow
And slowly I lose the once happy person I was
Now I am the cold broken shell
That sits here waiting for answers
That are never coming
